Empik is the largest and modern sale chain in Poland owned by Empik Media & Fashion Group. In its present shape empik builts its own image and position almost since the beginning of the political system change in Poland. empik brand still remains successor of the Clubs of International Press and Books which since 1948 have enriched Polish cultural landscape.

After establishing a strong position in Poland the empik brand began to expand to the Eastern European market. On April 27 2007, the first empik opened in Ukraine. The first step to built solid brand in Ukraine was to repurchase most of the shares in local book store chain Bukva (22 book store salons with the area of 40 to 300 m2).
